Safeguarding Supervision

In ‘Working Together to Safeguard Children 2026’ all settings are advised of their organisational responsibility from Section 11 of the Children Act 2004, including making arrangements for effective supervision practices, ensuring that professionals working with children are supported, have the necessary skills and knowledge, and are accountable for their work.

Specialist Supervision

ECP provide specialist supervision provided by highly experienced safeguarding consultants.

Here at ECP, we believe that supervision should be readily available to safeguarding practitioners, recognising that time to reflect and pause is crucial in being able to provide safe and clear decisions as well as to be able to recognise and manage the impact of the work that we are doing as professionals.

ECP is committed to ensuring that staff receive good quality, effective and purposeful support. This can be maintained through effective supervision.

ECP Safeguarding Supervision

At ECP the aims of supervision are:

To validate staff both as a professional and as a person.
To create a safe climate by giving staff an opportunity to look at their practice and its impact on them as a person.
To support staff who are subject to any form of abuse, either from students, parents or from other colleagues, whether this be physical, psychological or discriminatory.
To monitor the overall health and well-being of staff, especially about the effects of stress.
Debrief staff and give them a space in which to talk about their feelings.
To help staff explore emotional blocks to their work.
To help staff reflect on difficulties in peer relationships and to assist the staff member in resolving conflict.
To clarify when the staff member should seek external counselling.

We achieve these aims by creating a safe space for our supervision sessions, by building trust and having an empathetic approach to our work with professionals.

SENCo supervision

Providing regular supervision for school SENDCos is essential to ensure they can effectively lead on complex and often emotionally demanding work. The role involves coordinating support for pupils with diverse needs, navigating statutory responsibilities, and working closely with families and external professionals. Supervision offers a structured space to reflect on practice, discuss challenging cases, and maintain clarity around decision-making, helping to reduce isolation and support consistent, high-quality provision across the school.

In addition, formal supervision strengthens professional development and wellbeing. It enables SENDCos to build confidence, stay up to date with best practice, and develop strategic leadership skills. This not only improves outcomes for pupils with SEND but also contributes to staff retention by reducing burnout and promoting resilience. Ultimately, investing in supervision ensures SENDCos are supported to lead inclusive practice effectively and sustainably.
